BLACK & WHITE WITH A POP

The classic black and white makes any and everyone look amazing!  Often seen in color blocking, stripes, polka dots, black and white can draw the eye the way no other combination of colors can.

One of the best ways I absolutely love to see black and white worn is with a pop of color.  B&W gives the color a platform on which to stand.  Both B&W become the backdrop which allows the pop of color to literally "pop".

High ContrastChris Nicholls uses black, white, and red for a contrasting effect in his latest spread for Canada’s Fashion Magazine. The fashion photographer snapped local model Samantha Rayner in bold monochromatic and red ensembles selected by stylist Zeina Esmail. Hair and makeup artist Greg Wencel added an extra punch with a retro chic bowl cut and smokey eyes. / Manicure by Leeanne Colley, Retouching and color work by Lorca Moore

SOCK IT | DANDY STYLE

As we continue our exploration of Dandy Style, we present "the sock".  In true style, the sock chosen to be worn by a true Dandy Man has to be more than a spool of yarn with a double stitched toe.  The sock is essential to a well dressed Dandy Man, and is chosen as an accessory rather a necessary foot covering.

The perfect sock is a statement piece whose color, style, texture and design speaks to the personality of the man.  From muted tones, to modern patterns, paisleys to outrageous stripes and colors, socks are often one of the final statements of style for the Dandy Man.

From funky and fun to classic or retro, the right sock for a Dandy Man draws a stylish eye to a well fitted, shined shoe.

A Dandy Man will always find a way to infuse his polished, impeccable sense of style into whatever he chooses to where.  Whether its casual or business, evening or black tie, the Dandy Man style is undeniably stylish.

THE DANDY MAN | THE ART OF STYLE

Have you seen him, a man impeccably dressed, oozing charm and gentry? This man is  young, handsome, well mannered and black. They call him a Dandy Lion and he's changing the world's perception of young black men across the globe.

messynessychic.wordpress.com
"A Dandy Lion is a contemporary man of SWAG who oozes creativity and makes well thought-out decisions in expressing his individuality. A performance and embodiment of sophistication, dandies are gentlemen of exceptional manners who consciously postulate what it means to be Black, male, masculine and full of style not simply as performance but an embracement of a particular lifestyle." -Shantrelle P. Lewis Founder & Curator, The Dandy Lion Project

We've noticed a change taking place in young black men's fashion choices. Wing-tip spades, suspenders, tailored suits, silk neck ties, beautifully printed scarves or peeking handkerchiefs have taken the urban fashion scene by storm.   We saw a glimmer of this newly emerging trend in the 2008 launch of Andre3000's fashion line, Benjamin Bixby.

"Juxtaposed against an urban backdrop where the clothing of choice for many Black men consists of a of sagging pants, exposed boxers, jerseys and white tees – the “hip hop” generation has produced another phenomenon of style – the New Age Black dandy. Noticeably different from his historical minstrel or Harlem Renaissance “cult of respectability prototype,” the 21st Century Dandy Lion is more masculine than metro-sexual and certainly more an expression of the African aesthetic and mode of cosmopolitan swagger than an imitation of European high-brow society." FASHION + FILM: MIAMI FASHION FILM FESTIVAL SEPT 12-15, 2013

We were more than excited when we ran across the Miami Fashion Film Festival while checking out our Facebook news feed. Presenting the two within the same platform only makes good sense.  Fashion and film have always been happily married. From classic Audrey Hepburn, best known for her signature black cocktail dress in the movie, Breakfast at Tiffany's to Sarah Jessica Parker strutting down New York streets in 5-inch Christian Louboutin's in the comedy-drama series, Sex and the City. Film has proven to be the best runway for designers across the globe.

The geniuses behind the MIAFFF have integrated education, entertainment and art into its offerings. A fashion photo exhibit with Nicolas Stipcianos to a workshop on building your brand through the art of film, hosted by C&I Studios Executive Director, Joshua Miller, creatively intertwine the art of fashion with the business of fashion.  Keeping their finger on the fashion industry's pulse they've scheduled a workshop on fashion blogging. Ginger Harris of ElectricBlogarella.com, will present Fashion Blogging 101, l
earn how to start and sustain a successful fashion blog. With heart in hand and a needle and thread in the other come and learn how to get involved in fashionable giving. We look forward to this year's festival and wish the MIAFFF team many more. Check out their line-up of fashion films.

GOD SAVE MY SHOES

Featuring star designers such as Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, but also celebrities like Fergie, Dita Von Teese, Kelly Rowland and many more, the film journeys into women’s psyche and closets, examining the psychological, sociocultural, and erotic significance of these objects.

BLA BLA BLA
An excitable satire about excitable phenomena. Fashion designers, models, photographers, TV reporters, film crews and everything that hangs around them are put together in one room for the duration of the film. The bla-bla-bla is ceaseless.

MATERIAL SUCCESS

RUNWAYS & BUNKBEDS

What can you say about the wedge sneaker other than love, love, love!
It seems that after years of trying to get it right, the high-heeled sneaker is here. What we love most about this trend is that like a trend everyone is catching on.  Top designers like Chloe and Michael Kors have of course added their keen eye for design to the growing trend.  As well, for the budget conscious fashionista you have designers like Steve Madden and Urban Outfitters
There's enough style to go around for everyone!
