Socially Conscious Fashion Brand Inspires Community Heroes to “Strike-A-Pose” to End Sex Trafficking

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sep. 29, 2014 - MIAMI -- It started with a simple question, “What can I do to end sex trafficking here in Miami?” This was the question that CLOAK INC CEO and Founder, Ebonie Mukasa, asked herself when confronted with the view of her community and the apathy she saw among those in it. She found that many were overwhelmed by the issue and had no idea where to start. So, she decided to approach the subject creatively through a fashionable, message based, retro graphic novel concept entitled, “SAVESEX”. An evolution to this concept, the “I AM + HERO” Anti-sex trafficking campaign will be launched in the spring of 2015. "Finding creative ways to deal with tough issues is the basis of CLOAK INC’s business model,” says Ebonie. Founded in 2008, they have been on a mission of love by being the voice of the voiceless and supporting organizations helping those in our global community face some of the toughest moments in their lives.

To that end, on Saturday, October 25, 2014, CLOAK INC will host its first “I AM + HERO” Community Photo shoot at the Wynwood Warehouse Project located at 450 NW 27th Street, Miami, FL., 33127 from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. They invite YOU to participate as a model in what will be a city-wide awareness campaign that will take place in spring 2015. This action packed event will be a day of fashion, music, food and fun as we "Strike-A-Pose and Liberate Lives!" The event will also honor community heroes, Jorge Vietia, Executive Director of Life of Freedom Center, a community resource that offers free support and restorative programs for female survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking; and Linda Pulley Freeman is the Executive Director of Peacemakers at Trinity Church (Miami) and author of The Thrive Journal. Linda is donating 100% of the proceeds from her most recent published work, Inspired for Greater Things, to support the work of Teen Challenge Cambodia (TCC). TCC's mission is to provide rehabilitation and restoration programs for those who desire to escape the drug and sex trafficking industry on the streets of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The urgency of addressing human trafficking couldn’t be more apparent. According to the United States Department of Justice, each year an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 people are trafficked in the United States alone. These are staggering numbers that speak to a huge problem that can no longer be ignored. Human sex trafficking is more lucrative than the drug trade because the victim can be sold over and over again. Therefore, prevention and awareness are paramount. Often people are deterred from the fight because they think that it involves knocking down doors of houses that harbor those who have possibly been kidnapped and exploited. Combatting this mindset is what makes events like the “I AM+ HERO” Community Photo Shoot so important. The event offers those attending an opportunity to identify individuals and organizations in the community who are lending their resources to the fight. Attendees are also joining the fight simply by purchasing a ticket to the event because 20% of the proceeds will go to Life of Freedom Center, a resource that offers free support and restorative programs to female survivors.

Of course, an event of this magnitude and scope could not be possible without a group of sponsors and collaborators dedicated to making a difference. With the generous support of its sponsors, The Dreaded Indie, Jennjins Sweets & Premier Events, WEBNIE | Creative Business Solutions, and OUCHGirl International this event was made possible. As well, CLOAK INC has found a dynamic group of partners to make this event an experience unlike any other. Among those lending their talents to the “I AM + HERO” Community Photo Shoot are photographers James Eagles and Anthony Jordon, makeup artists Tahisha Legrand, Christina Neptune, and Katherine Cardona with makeup provided, in part, by Mary Kay Director, Alice Fields, and musical guests Shekitra Starke and Chris Wisdom Leger.

For anyone who ever asked what they could do to make a difference in ending the human trafficking epidemic, attending the “I AM + HERO” Community Photo Shoot on October 25th is a good start. Pops & Purpose | A Unique Foodie and Fashion Event

There is no doubt it’s summertime here in Sunny Miami Florida.  Tropic breezes, swaying palms and humid days and nights give way to a fresh and unique event format sure to cool your palette for both flavor and fashion. Feverish Pops and CLOAK Apparel, Inc. also known as CLOAK INC are hosting the first in a series of four events entitled, Pops and Purpose.  A collaborative of socially conscious brands eating pops and raising awareness.

On June 15, 2013, Pops & Purpose will launch at the Feverish Pops store located in the Shops at Midtown, 3252 NE 1st Avenue, #120. The event will feature energetic sounds by DJ Davinci, a spoken word performance by Mr. Speak to My Future, Chris Wisdom Ledger, Feverish Pops, Fashion with Purpose and so much more.

The night’s purpose is to raise awareness concerning human trafficking. On May 18, 2013, CLOAK INC launched its latest campaign collection entitled, “I AM”.  The collection is a simple concept that speaks to a complex issue.  Self-identity, self-respect and, love of self can be issues victims of human trafficking face.  As well, traffickers and philanders of the industry often objectify and dehumanize their victims. “I AM is a personal statement of awareness and existence.  It is a declaration that gives way to life,” says Ebonie M. Mukasa, CLOAK INC, CEO and Founder. 20% of the net proceeds from the sale of the “I AM” Campaign Collection will be donated to organizations rescuing and restoring victims of human trafficking.

Feverish Pops and CLOAK INC are a sweet match. Feverish Pops’ mission is to introduce the world to a new way of enjoying frozen desserts while making the world a sweeter place.  The Feverish concept is fun and exciting, “We fuse art, music, social awareness and of course ice cream into vintage carts,” says Chief Popsicle, Felecia Hatcher.  CLOAK INC’s mission is to cover those in need through fashion. “As a fashion brand we create unique, trendy, casual wear in support of social issues,” says Ebonie. Through the use of campaigns, initiatives, print, video, social media, events and forums; CLOAK INC raises awareness and sells their collection pieces to raise funds to donate to non-profit organizations helping those in need.

Pops & Purpose is a platform for the community to meet and interact with social brands. This energetic atmosphere, offers a social opportunity for brands to share their purposes and products with consumers.  “We want these events to build awareness of socially conscious brands, garner public support and create lasting relationships - with pops in hand of course!” says Felecia.
If you would like to participate in this event as a socially conscious brand or vendor there are a limited number of spaces available. Contact CLOAK INC at info@cloakinc.com or call 786-505-2601.

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | How much MORE will you BE?

BACK STORY
There is a satisfaction that comes with seeing the fruits of your labor.
It could be pursuing a degree or a new position at work,
it may be teaching a child their alphabets and witnessing them graduate to reading.
In all these and so many other areas of life
we experience growth, increase and eventually MORE.
More is not about consumption, it is about moving from obscurity to greatness.
More is about developing, growing, maturing in an effort to inspire greatness in others.
How much MORE will you BE?

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | REAL SUCCESS

BACK STORY
It is my personal belief that everyone wants to be successful.
What that means to each individual differs greatly.
That quest for success lead us to pursue different paths.
We may find ourselves blending the components of education, experience, innovation, and creativity to achieve what we consider "success".  I heard a very successful business man, pastor and coach say, "Your greatest success lies in your influence."  He went on to say, "I would rather have influence than wealth."  I never heard someone say such a revolutionary statement. Influence, who would have thought?  Over the last few years, I've put into practice being consistent, dependable, giving and passionate about everything I do. I've changed my perspective to seek to become more influential in order to achieve CLOAK's goal of covering those in need through fashion. Today, the impact of that influence translates into true, sustainable success. - Ebonie M. Mukasa, CEO, CLOAK INC

What are you thinking? What are your ideas? Are you positive and hopeful, or are you pessimistic and hopeless? What solutions do you want to provide to help others? POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | CHOOSE TO BE

BACK STORY
It's easy to let life just "happen".  It's easy to live with no pressure, no concerns, no responsibilities, just floating through life with no purpose or direction. It's called "existing", nothing more, nothing less. BUT what if we decided to BE, to become more than we or those spectators to our lives ever thought we could be?  What would happen if everyone lived on purpose? It is a challenge to BE, but it is worth pursuing a dream, achieving a goal and leaving your mark on the world. Choose to BE.

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | CHANGE THE WORLD

BACK STORY

Often times we think that it takes celebrity, popularity, financial capacity or something else to make a difference.  Interestingly, if we look back in history, we find that most of the actions or events that changed the world started with someone or something seemingly insignificant or common. Every single one of us has a part to play in shaping the world. Our purposes can be discovered by looking inward at our unique personal gifts, talents and by having confidence in our ideas. Don't discount what you have by focusing on what you don't have.  What you do have can change the world! - Ebonie M. Mukasa, CEO & Founder, CLOAK INC.

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | BE MORE

BACK STORY
We all encounter "those" days, when nothing goes right, challenges seem insurmountable, answers and solutions seemed far-fetched.  This thought came to mind the morning after one of those days.  I started a new day, but yesterday's issues were still unresolved. I
decided that I would be more than I was the day before.  I decided that I would be more earnest in my efforts and smarter about my decisions. I believe every day presents itself with new ideas and new solutions, we have to be willing to be better daily in order to see receive them. - Ebonie M. Mukasa, CEO and Founder, CLOAK INC

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS | GET BUSY

BACK STORY
"I woke up one morning with a true sense of urgency. I realized that I don't have forever to accomplish what I feel to be my life's purpose. I made up my mind to refer to myself as 'time sensitive' and to GET BUSY!" - Ebonie M. Mukasa, CEO & Founder, CLOAK INC.

POSITIVE + THOUGHTS: BE BOLD

BACK STORY

"A good friend told me once that I'm bold. I was initially offended, because I immediately correlated bold with audacious, rude and insensitive.  He went on to explain that he saw it as courageous and in order to accomplish the mission of CLOAK INC, that is exactly what I needed to be." - Ebonie M. Mukasa, CEO and Founder, CLOAK INC.

IRIDESCENT and MIRROR METALLICS

Needless to say as we perused the various fashion blogs we came across what had to be one of our most fav trends of the season.  The iridescent and mirror metallic fabrics, handbags, accessories and of course SHOES.

This got our creative juices flowing and of course a moment of vain imagination and we wondered where oh where in the world could we find all things yard globe ball shiny?  So we scoured the entire globe (well not by airplane, maybe more like late nights on the internet) and found a few goodies we LOVED and hope you like.

Take a peek at what's in stores now.
